The Choir Principals

Here are the Biographies of the principals in the Choir:

Bob Gibbons:

Our Music Director is Bob Gibbons. Bob’s background and passion is musical theater. Bob’s passion is . He is a long-standing member and treasurer of Worle Operatic and Dramatic Society, which he joined in 1985. He has had many leading parts including Tevye (Fiddler), Professor Higgins (My Fair Lady), Francis Fryer (Calamity Jane), Fagin (Oliver) and Billis (South Pacific). He enjoys comedy roles the most and always sees the comic side of the characters he plays. He has been nominated for the Rose Bowl best actor awards for five times for Professor Higgins, Tevye and Fagin and Hines in ‘Pajama Game’. He has turned his hand to directing and was responsible for ‘Anything Goes’ in 2005 and ‘Godspell’ in 2008.

Bob was the head teacher of Becket Primary School until April 2009.  He moved to Worle from Basingstoke with his wife and three daughters.

Bill:

Bills background is military. He has conducted brass bands and currently is MD of two local choirs. Bill is our accompanist on the piano.

Stuart Laird:

Stuart is a musician and the inspiration behind the Big Worle Showbiz project. After leaving the RAF Stuart formed a band and toured, supporting big names of the rock & roll era. He followed this by promoting entertainment and radio shows for the UK military units.

Later Stuart joined an entertainment agency promoting northern music bands and eventually started his own agency supplying artists to the southwest UK entertainment establishments.

Now retired Stuart continues to play gigs at local entertainment venues.
